oil on cradled panel, 2019, 20x30cm
The hand axe is a tool that was used unchanged for one million years. Our relationship to our prehistoric selves and close ancestors is a pertinent issue, and often fraught with caricature; yet despite our contemporary lifestyles our brains haven’t altered in tens of thousands of years.
These ‘assemblage’ paintings are designed from recurring themes and imagery that are intuitively collected and assembled, and circle around key themes.
This painting was selected for The 2020 BEEP Painting Prize and featured in The Pandemic Post: The Food Issue.
